Electronic Library for Information - Education - Communication documents on rural water supply and environmental sanitation
On April 4 in Hanoi, National Centre for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (NCERWASS) in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and Plan International Organization in Vietnam held a seminar to introduce and launch Electronic Library and to popularize the assessment results of communication documents on rural water and environmental sanitation.
60 representatives from 13 international organizations and delegates from Ministries, Departments, and relevant agencies attended the seminar.
As known, the idea of building Electronic Library for Information – Education – Communication documents on clean water and environmental sanitation has been entertained since March 2006 by National Center for Rural Water Supply and Enviromental Sanitation. With assistance from Plan International and Unicef, one group of library construction consultants including international and Vietnamese experts were gathered in August 2006 when they started to collect, classify and assess the documents.
To date, the library has reached the number of 81,229 subscribers; 540 online document items and nearly 1,000 documents being filed in the library of NCERWASS.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Vice Director of National Centre for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, the launching of electronic library is not only an effort aiming at improving Information - Education - Communication activities, changing awareness of clean water and environmental sanitation, but also a channel for providing information sharing related knowledge and experience.
