On September 3rd, 2008, the Prime Minister signed Decision No.1456/TTg-QHQT approving the Technical Assistance Project list "Clean Water Supply and Sanitation for Rural Central area" funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project was approved with the total value of US$700,000, of which 600.000 USD will be grant aid from ADB and 100,000 USD from reciprocal capital by humance resources and Project office equipment of the MARD.
The project is expected to help Vietnamese Government and ADB select and prepare a feasible project for 5-6 provinces among 13 provinces in the central areas including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
ADB plans to provide a prefered credit loan of around 40 million USD to Vietnamese Government for the first stage in order to execute the project in selected provinces, aiming at supplying water and sanitation for rural people living in project areas, to improve capacity at all levels and to reform policies for enhancing investment effectiveness of the Government and sponsors, contributing to the implementation of the National Target Program by 2010.
The National Centre for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation will be the Client of the project while the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will be responsible for project management.
